🎭 Stable Nicknames & Personalities

Every wrestler at Futagoyama has a distinct personality that comes through in their YouTube channel (300+ videos, 146,000+ lines of subtitles). Here are some highlights you won't find anywhere else.

🍳 Tsukioka = "Kyomu-nii" (虚無兄)

Means "Nihilist Big Bro." Named by Wakamiyabi after Tsukioka's dead-eyed expression while cooking an omelette went viral. "Kyomu Omelette" became a meme among fans.

▶ Watch the moment
🫒 Mita = "Goma-abura" (ごま油)

Means "Sesame Oil." Nabatame saved Mita's name as "Goma-abura" in his phone contacts. "I get calls from Sesame Oil," he said. Mita's father is a national arm wrestling champion.

▶ Watch the moment
👨‍🏫 Kyoda = "Kyoda-sensei" (許田先生)

Called "Sensei" (teacher) by both staff and fellow wrestlers. Nobehara calls him "our ace." Known for his kind personality — Kouga says "I respect his kindness."

▶ Watch the moment
🎸 Kotakiyama = "Kotakkī" (コタッキー)

Named by Nobehara. Kotakiyama is the eldest of the Soma Brothers — three real brothers (Kotakiyama, Soma, Shunta) all from Otawara City, Tochigi, all training at Futagoyama.

▶ Watch the moment
🍗 Denuma = "Denu" (でぬ)

"I've only ever been called 'Denu,'" he says. Famous for his karaage (fried chicken) — nicknamed "Karaage no Numa" (The Fried Chicken Swamp) after his cooking went viral on TV.

🎮 Keiga = "Dera" (でら)

His school nickname. A self-described anime and gaming otaku — says if he wasn't a wrestler, he'd work in games or anime. His most treasured possession is a wallet from his mother. Looks up to Rohga.

👨‍👦‍👦 The Soma Brothers — Three Real Brothers in One Stable

One of the most remarkable stories in modern sumo: three biological brothers from the same city, all competing in the same stable.

Eldest · Soma Kento
184.7cm / 136kg · 23 y.o.
Middle · Soma Shinya
179cm / 149kg · 21 y.o.
Youngest · Soma Shunta
177cm / 140kg · 16 y.o.

All three are from Otawara City, Tochigi Prefecture. In a YouTube video, Shunta describes the first time he sparred with his eldest brother Kotakiyama:

"When I crouched at the starting line and looked straight ahead, there was Kotakiyama. It was the first time — really, truly the first time we'd wrestled for real. It felt so strange. This is my big brother I've always looked up to, and now we're about to fight."

"I managed a good initial charge, but then he instantly got inside position. I tried to counter but he overpowered me. Yeah... he's on another level."

Staff: "You want him to stay a strong big brother?" — Shunta: "Always."

♪ He then starts singing a love ballad ♪

🇵🇭 Kuwae — From the Philippines to the Dohyo

Real name: Pasqual Justin France. Born in the Philippines, Kuwae moved to Kawasaki at age 4. He once cooked his homeland's signature dish — adobo — for the entire stable. With a push-out rate of 61% (highest in the stable), his small but explosive frame is built for charging forward.
