Profile
Kouga's great-granduncle is the 58th Yokozuna Mienoumi (三重ノ海) — one of Japan's most celebrated sumo champions of the 1970s–80s era. This makes Kouga one of the most historically connected wrestlers at Futagoyama Stable.
Kouga (厚雅) is a 20-year-old professional sumo wrestler from Matsusaka, Mie, competing for Futagoyama Stable. He carries one of the most remarkable family legacies in the stable: his great-granduncle is Yokozuna Mienoumi, the 58th Yokozuna and a titan of Japanese sumo during the late Showa era.
Yokozuna Mienoumi (born Narutaki Kenichi) was a dominant force known for his aggressive pushing and thrusting technique. He earned his yokozuna promotion in 1979 and won multiple tournament championships during his career. His name lives on in sumo history, and it is from Matsusaka, Mie — the same region as Kouga — that this legendary lineage originates.
Kouga himself is still in the early stages of his professional career at age 20. Currently ranked West Jonidan 91, he has been posting competitive 4–3 records in recent basho and showing signs of physical improvement. The combination of his family background, his age, and his improving results makes him one of the more intriguing long-term prospects in Futagoyama Stable's lower divisions.
Among international sumo fans who follow the stable on YouTube, Kouga has become something of a fan favourite — partly due to his compelling backstory, and partly due to his energetic presence during matches. His name, the kanji 厚雅 (meaning something like "dignified depth"), reflects the weight of expectation that comes with his lineage.
