Rohga's primary style is right-hand inside grip (右四つ, migi-yotsu) — he locks his right arm deep under his opponent's left arm to control the belt. From that grip he drives forward with frontal force-out (寄り, yori), using his 160 kg frame to bulldoze opponents toward the straw bales.
He is a patient, methodical wrestler who rarely panics when pushed to the edge. His wide stance and low centre of gravity make him difficult to throw or trip. The main weakness critics cite is vulnerability against smaller, faster opponents who can pull or slap him off-balance before he can establish his grip.
One of sumo's few Tuvan wrestlers
Rohga was born in the Tuva Republic (Тыва / Тувинская Республика), a federal subject of Russia in southern Siberia, bordering Mongolia to the south. The indigenous Tuvan people are a Turkic ethnic group known for their nomadic traditions, including the remarkable art of throat singing (хоомей, khoomei).
Rohga came to Japan as a teenager to attend Tottori Johoku High School (鳥取城北高校) — the country's most successful sumo program, which has produced numerous top-division wrestlers. He became high school champion (高校横綱) before joining Futagoyama Stable as a professional in 2018.
Tuvan sumo wrestlers are rare but not unprecedented — the region's wrestling traditions and physical build tend to translate well to the sumo style. Rohga's Tuvan roots have earned him a following among Russian-speaking and international sumo fans.
