👤 Who is Daieisho?
Daieisho Hayato (大栄翔 勇人, born November 10, 1993 in Asaka, Saitama) has been a fixture of the top division since the late 2010s, competing for Oitekaze stable. At 182 cm and 163 kg he is not one of the giants of the division; his sumo is built on a hard initial charge and a relentless thrusting attack (tsuki-oshi) rather than belt work. He turned professional in January 2012 and, after 87 tournaments, has a career record of 646 wins, 530 losses and only 17 absences — a remarkably durable career.
🏆 January 2021: the championship from Maegashira 1
Ranked Maegashira 1 West for the January 2021 Hatsu Basho, Daieisho went 13–2 to win his first — and so far only — top-division championship, adding the Outstanding Performance and Technique prizes in the same tournament. It was the first Emperor's Cup for Oitekaze stable. He has since collected seven special prizes in all: five Outstanding Performance (shukun-shō) and two Technique (ginō-shō) awards, a total that reflects how often he has beaten yokozuna and ōzeki.
📈 Four years in the san'yaku ranks
From March 2022 to July 2025 Daieisho was ranked at komusubi or sekiwake in 21 of 22 tournaments — including a 12–3 at Komusubi in March 2023 and 11–4 records at Maegashira 1 (May 2024) and Sekiwake (January 2025). A full absence in July 2025 (0–0–15) dropped him to Maegashira 10, where he rebuilt with 7–8 and 10–5. After three straight 7–8 records at Maegashira 4 in early 2026, a 10–5 in July 2026 returned him to komusubi for September, where he finished 5–10.
